We're complex creatures and you can end a sequel or two in a bleak cliffhanger without killing a main character.Ĭuckman had a full agenda laid out for this sequel. ![]() I won't speak for everyone but every game, book, movie, series, etc. Another problem is that Dina likely went back with the baby as it's safer there than just the two of them.Įllie chose to break her trust with Nose. ![]() I'm sure at some point Ellie will have to prove herself and atone or something to be allowed back in. She can return to the farmhouse and will have to spend some time working through everything. IMO, if she goes back then Tommy has gotten word of all the killing she's done regardless and won't let her back in. Tommy gave her the info and I believe tried to talk her out of it. That's nothing but preachy T+ agenda in your face. On the note of varied gameplay, have you gone back and. They're very similar in what you describe as a game of 'find the place where you can shoot a portal'. Relate the P2 puzzles to the puzzles at the end of Portal 1. Ian Alexander has only played two trans characters. Also, I feel a little like the puzzles in Portal 2 were less about being puzzles and more about just getting out of Aperture. Her mother won't accept her so they plan on killing her so her and Yara run away. Lev is a biological female who thinks she's a boy played by an 'actor' who is exactly the same. The game would still have been bad overall but if we had got an ending similar to this at least the message would still be intact. This would have made the ending tie in with the themes. By brutally killing Abby in front of Lev she would be perpetuating the same violence that was done to her and Joel and this horrifies her. Not only do Ellie and Abby get bad endings for it, with Ellie losing everything and Abby dying, but it could also cause Ellie to realise she has become just as bad as Abby. So, the message of revenge being bad is preserved. What would have made the message work is if Ellie killed Abby but Lev sees the whole thing and begs Ellie not to kill her, just like Ellie begged Abby not to kill Joel. ![]() The game ruined its own message.ĮDIT: You know what? Just got this idea. The Last of Us 2 tried to tell a story about revenge being bad, yet the person who gave up on it is ultimately punished while the person who gave in to it succeeds. Meanwhile Abby, who gave in to revenge by brutally murdering Joel, ends the game in a far better position, going to rejoin the Fireflies with her close friend Lev by her side. Dina and her kid leave her and Tommy will probably hate her for not killing Abby. Ellie gives up on revenge at the last moment but still loses everything. Naughty Dog wanted to create a story about the cycle of violence but they tainted this message with the ending they chose. But arguably the worst thing about it is how Ellie letting Abby live ties into the ending. For one thing, I still don't know why Ellie spared Abby after one flashback of Joel playing a guitar. I've already talked about how I hated the first Abby vs Ellie fight but I believe the second fight between them is just as bad, if not worse.
